SEALINK'S short sea ferry routes contributed to its overall successful year in terms of ro-ro road haulage units.
The Dover-Dunkirk and Calais routes and the Folkestone-Calais and Boulogne routes made 131,000 carryings in 1982, compared with 104,000 during 1981.
The Belgium crossing, from Folkestone and Dover to Ostend, made 128,000 carryings, compared with 122,000 in 1981.
The Newhaven-Dieppe route was the only one that suffered loss. Because of damaging strikes in the first six months of 1982, ro-ro carryings were 21,000, a 12,000 drop on 1981 figures.
Fewer interruptions to trade through industrial action have helped Irish Sea operator Pandora to achieve a record number of loads on the company's freight ferry service between England and Ireland in 1982.
Over 100,000 loads moved to and from Larne and Dublin, the highest figure since the services began in 1975.
