Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mr John Else, chairman of the West Midland Traffic Commissioners sitting in Birmingham last week, decided to grant a Midland Red application to reduce the number of Saturday night services on the Birmingham to Coleshill and Kingshurst routes after he had heard that. on an average, the 72-seater double-decker buses were carrying only 16 passengers.

The application was objected to by Meriden rural district council on behalf of Kingshurst parish council but no representative attended the hearing.

The court heard that Midland Red proposed to reduce the services on the Kingshurst route by lowering the frequency from every 20 to every 30 minutes; and from every 30 minutes to every hour on the Coleshill services. This would bring the three services affected into line with the respective weekday services.

Mr J. H. Birch, divisional administrative officer, said that the number of passengers carried did not warrant such frequent services. He added that the three late services on a Saturday night would be unaffected.
