Self-retracting Air or Fluid Line ASELF-RETRACTING air or fluid line made in plastics material and suitable for use in workshops is now available from the Avery Division of Lockheed Precision Products Ltd. Called Recoil, this hose extends and retracts like modernstyled telephone cords and closes up after use to about onetwentieth of its working length.

The main application of Recoil is as an airline for tyre service, but it is also said to be suitable for use as a water line for radiators and lubrication bays. For workshop purposes it can be used with a wide range of pneumatic tools. Installation poses no problems, since only a spanner is needed to fit any of the range of B.S.P. and N.P.T. connections available. Lockheed Avery self-seal couplings can also be fitted so that the hose canbe transferred quickly to another point or disconnected for safe overnight storage.

Recoil is claimed to be resistant to oil, grease and petrol, and to have high resistance to abrasion.

Dagenite Easifil Battery GENERALLY available now is the Dagenite Easifil battery. This battery has the distinctive feature of allowing the driver of a vehicle to see at a glance when it needs topping up. White indicators show the state of the acid level in each cell. When the battery does not need topping up, all indicators can be clearly seen through the transparent window on top of the cover—if any indicator cannot be seen the battery needs topping up. To do this all that is required is to lift the cover off and pour distilled water into the trough until it is full to the brim. When the cover is replaced the water in the trough automatically empties into the cells.

The design of this battery gives more space than usual above the top of the plates, providing for a greater volume of acid. This means that topping up is less frequently required than with the normal style of battery. Another feature is a newly designed lid—test prod "knock out" holes are provided on this for individual cell testing and topping up instructions are moulded on it.

The battery is available in two sizes—both 12 V.—the 17 with seven plates and the J9 with nine plates.

Additions to Trailer Range THREE new models' have been added to the RM range of 1 trailers, made by Richard Maurice Equipment Co., which incorporate special features that enable them to .carry crawler tractors—but they can also carry other heavy, compact machines. Models are available in three capacities—the 5-ton trailer is designed to carry smaller tractors, the 6-ton model is for small tractors fitted with back hoe diggers, and the 7-ton trailer is intended to carry heavier machines.

The low self-tilting platform, downswept at the rear end, makes a straight line with the ramps and eliminates the danger of the tractor toppling from the ramps onto the platform. The resulting incline of the platform is only I in 7--platform height ixhen loaded is 1 ft. 3 in. The end of the platform is flared out, and the side members guide the machine centrally onto the platform, preventing side movement.

The trailer is constructed of hollow rectangular steel sections. major welds being reinforced With gusset plates. Independent rubber susPensions have progressive rate and high damping action; cranked axles result in a low platform height.

Trailer equipment includes 12 in. brakes (vacuum or compressed air servo systems are offered), front jack, lighting. heavy-duty ramps and throw-over steady legs. .Optional extras available are treadplate walkways instead of mudguards, and a gantry on the drawbar for supporting the tractor bucket in the raised position. Sides and headboard are also available. The 5-ton models can be towed by a Land-Rover—a lorry is recommended for the 7-ton model, The drawbar can be cranked, if necessary, to mate with the lorry towing hook— there is no extra charge for this.
