I N the past three years British Road Services have spent £.15,1m, on modern vehicles incorporating many devices likely to increase safety and efficiency. These included the provision of two independent rear lights and reflectors, which was introduced by B.R.S. two years before the recent legislation.
The chairman of B.R.S., Maj.-Gen. G. N. Russell, made this statement when he presented safe-driving awards to 26 drivers last week. The men had records of 25-32 years' driving without accident or conviction.
Whereas the accident figures for the country as a whole had risen in the past two years. said Gen. Russell. those for B.R.S. had markedly fallen. One reason was the system of preventive maintenance now followed. Accidents caused by mechanical failure formed only 2 per cent, of the total.
