Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

How can anyone complain about the VI employing German staff to fill job vacancies (CM21-27 November), provided they are not employing cheap labour? The alternative could be the TOV [German equivalent of the VU and DEKRA ta privatised consultancy service) to set up more offices in UK to take work away from the VI because it cannot meet the need.

At least this way the business stays with a UK-base organisation!

Mari Carrington, MD, King Vehicle Engineering, Market Harborough, Leics, If the V1 can't meet first-tin booking times for operators then maybe Mr Carrington's alternative suggestion of letting the TOV and DEKRA compete for business Isn't such a bad idea. After all, whl It comes to annual HMI testin the VI has a virtual monopoly In the free-market world perhaps It would be a good Idea to Introduce some competition—Ed.
