I read with interest the letter t Mike Ashton of Topsham Drivi Training on 40mph limits ( CM 13 Nov). As far as the letter of the law goes, he is correct in reminding us all of the 40mph speed knit that applies to HG' vehicles on single lane A-road Some drivers would love this man to be their transport manager.

Yet sadly we live in a socie that is "rush, rush, rush" and unlikely to change. I regularly travel up to Kent from the We Country and I am among the large majority who often exceed the 40mph speed limit.

The art of overtaking is being lost because too many car drivers are too scared to risk momentarily going over perhaps 70mph to perform a swift passing manoeuvre. Queues form and then the idiocy begins, and as I am at t front of this queue I have become the catalyst that star this off.

One day this will culminatE a serious accident, possibly killing someone, indirectly caused by me not speeding.

In this politically correct, nanny state that we live in, 13t knows best and we are not allowed to use our common sense—but remember "whe there's blame, there's a clamr How long before yet another ridiculous court case comes light where a bereaved famil: les a driver for their loss :cause he was at the front of e queue doing a legal 40mphP I remember being stopped the police once. I explained is theory. and that I did not ant blood on my hands; they rnpathised and let me go. As the man in uniform told e, I was going too fast—but I asn't driving dangerously so. allot,
