• An agricultural haulier that has a major contract with Anglian Water is being investigated by the Vehicle Inspectorate for running without an Operator's Licence.
England Environmental Anglian (Ltd) hauls sewage sludge to land contracts, It has been running tankers on Anglian Water work since April and admits none of the vehicles have 0-licences but says it has always intended to apply for them to the Eastern Traffic Area.
However, England believes it has acted legally since it took over the Anglian Water contracts because it has hired in all its equipment. It has now applied for an interim licence.
Following a meeting with England two weeks ago Anglian Water has given the firm an ultimatum to produce a licence by Friday {6 December). II says it did this after a solici
tors letter England promised to send Anglian Water explaining the situation never arrived.
Anglian says it knows that England's vehicles have been inspected by the VI and has taken legal advice on the implications of the situation. Managing director Nigel England admits there have been problems on the eastern contracts. A previous company jointly run by Nigel EnglandMajormove Ltd—went into liquidation in May owing around £70,000.
