AN improved edition of the Speed model register, manufactured by Sctright Registers, Ltd., Claremont Road, London, E.17, increases its scope and use. Modifications have been made to the fare, stage and all other index wheels, enabling the fare range to be extended to 19s. Hid., thus making the machine suitable for both local and longer-distance services. This extended fare range can also be applied to currencies other than that used in Great Britain.

The model now embodies features making it suitable tor even the most complicated system of issue and cancellation of return or weekly tickets, and the accounting of special tickets issued under co-ordination or inter-availability schemes.

The machine prints on a paper roll by means of a continuous inking ribbon. The roll, which can be replenished in the machine by the conductor, provides about 500 tickets. The inking ribbon has a useful life of about three months without attention and the employment. of a feeding device ensures that during this period every ticket printed by the machine is legible.

Five-figure counters are employed for recording cash taken, total number of tickets issued, and the number of return or special tickets issued or cancelled. A maximum of seven classes of ticket and 99 stage numbers are provided for.

A similar model is now also being produced, but covering fares only from id. to 1 lid., for use on short-distance routes.
