Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

First new-build ATF opens

THE FIRST PURPOSE-built Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) has opened in Hyde, Cheshire, initially offering testing three-days a week, but increasing to five from September.

To date, the only ATFs to go live have been conversions from Designated Premises. Independent CV maintenance provider Stockport Truck Centre (STC) says VOSAS strategy to reduce its own testing stations led to STC considering its long-term options.

"Rather than standing by and watching test station numbers decrease, adding increased costs to our customers and our business alike, we decided to seize the opportunity and develop our own in-house testing facility," says MD Gareth Hardy.

The investment in the new facility has been "substantial", says Hardy, but he is con fident that as one of the largest independent repairers in the UK, 'We will attract the volumes necessary to support the third-party stand-alone testing requirements".

Richard Smith. VOSA ATF programme director, says: "This is a great example of taking testing closer to where vehicles are maintained." STC will test all types of CVs apart from ADR vehicles. Call 0161 366 9400 or email stcatf@stc-uk.com
