Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Engine specialist TAE, in conjunction with Warwick Banks Handling, is offering an engine modification service for Land Rover 200 TDI charge-cooled diesel engines, fitted to Defender and Discovery Commercials.

In standard form the engine produces 80kW (I07hp) at 3,800rpm. TAE claims its conversion will raise power to around 104kW (140hp), whilst boosting torque and improving engine flexibility. The company also claims reduced noise levels and better fuel economy—up to 8.81it1100km (32mpg) for the Discovery.

The modifications include fit

ting a new cylinder head, fuel pump and modifications to the intercooler and air flow in the system. TAE says the conversion has been proved over many thousands of miles and that reliability is not compromised by the modifications.

However, Land Rover says its warranty is invalidated by the conversion. While bodywork would still be covered, damage to driveline components would not. TAE can offer a warranty for £200 on the work it carries out. The conversion costs £1,500 (exVAT).

TAE can be contacted on (0823) 289111.
