Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Sales have risen steadily since Christmas at ProTruck Auctions as the new operation settles down and finds ts mark Kevin Swallow reports.

Six months ago Charlie Wright kicked off ProTruck Auctions with ambitions to take on the major players.

He reports that after an opening flurry sales dropped back towards Christmas, but then levelled out and have been growing steadily this year: On 12 December we had 253 lots on sale; at the last sale we had 393 lots. It was our strongest turnover, £1.7m, and it has progressed gradually since Christmas."

Part of the growth in turnover comes from rising prices in response to the well publicised shortage of late-year, low-mileage stock.

"Five-year-old vehicles are doing well; there's a lot of overseas custom," Wright reports. "Russian and Cypriot markets want as close to five-year-old stock as possible; it can fetch up to £2,000 more than six-year-old stock."

Not that older stock is suffering too badly. Longer lead times on new products mean prices on vehicles like 01-registered Oaf tractors are higher now than six months ago. The eight-legger market continues to flourish, as operators snap them up for Eastern European building projects and future British developments— this demand extends to concrete mixers.

The trailer market is also a good earner for ProTruck Auctions, with tippers in strong demand and a lot of 2000-2003 ex-Transrent trailers going under the hammer.

Rather than flooding the market, hauliers have been quick to update their own fleets with former Transrent trailers and send their old stock to auction, leading to a good mix of age and specifics.

Prices of flatbed trailers continue to fluctuate, from £810 at one sale to as much as £1,400 at the next.
