ONE of the points not generally recognized in workshop output is that of time indirectly lost when a man is working at below his best speed because he has a damaged finger or hand. Every fitter knows the hazards of trying to remove brake shoes with a large screwdriver, and the pain caused when a finger gets trapped by the hooked end of a return spring.

There are a great many vehicles both large and small equipped with Girling brakes and, to make overhauling of these units swift arid safe, Girling produces a small number of specially designed tools.

Going through the job from the beginning, the adjusters must first be wound back so that the shoes clear the drum for withdrawal. And, whether the system is of the light vehicle pattern or of the heaviest commercial type, there is a tool which will make the removal of the shoes and their return springs a simple matter.
