Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ONDON TRANSPORT may soon give consent for private operators to apply •to the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner for authority to run services on some outer suburban routes which have been losing money; the L.T.B. will not object to the operators' applications.

This is one likely outcome of the busmen's continued refusal to accept operation of these routes with one-man buses, as part of the five-point productivity proposals. Alternatively, the Board may cut service frequencies or discontinue these routes completely.

Private operators could, it is thought, more easily make some of these currently uneconomic routes pay. If the L.T.B. does decide to withdraw from them then possibly as many as 200 buses, mostly single-deckers, would become redundant. The Board is ready to offer these to the private operators, who would paint them in their own livery.
