THERE is at present considerable 1 activity at the Gloucester bodybuilding works of the Gloucester Railway Wagon and Carriage Co., Ltd'., where several important orders are being carried out.

Interesting features are incorporated in a number of single-deck and 52seater double-deck bodies being Mounted on Daimler chassis, with Gardner five-cylindered oil engines and Fluid Flywheels, to the order of Aberdare Corporation. The double-deckers, for instance, are of composite construction, incorporating the company's Daylite principles, features of which are the detachable metal window pans with radiused corners, for the exclusion of moisture, and radiused fitiishers on the inside of the windows, to facilitate cleaning. Tubular seats with Dunlop fillings are fitted. The extra-wide stairway has a central landing.

Walsall Corporation are also passing through the works, a feature being that all the framework is of pitch pine and the pillars are carried through in one piece from the lower to the upper saloon, in accordance with the requirements of the corporation. The interior stanchions and finishers are of stainless steel, whereas, in the case ofthe bodies for Aberdare, the fittings are of chromium plate and black Doveri te.

These bodies, as well as luxury coachwork for Red and White Services, Ltd., represent repeat orders, whilst bodies for long-distance coaches are also under construction to the order of Messrs. Bevan Brothers, of Cinderford.

The Gloucester concern has, in the past, constructed the majority of the bus bodies for Gloucester Corporation, these being 26-32-seaters mounted on Thornycroft chassis. The company carries large stocks of timber and, in motor-vehicle bodies, uses only naturally seasoned English oak or ash, unless otherwise specified. All its native timber is converted from the log in the concern's own sawmills.

The company's long experience in the ,construction of railway carriages is standing it in good stead in the production of coach and bus bodies.
