THE Central London Busmen's committee at their meeting last week decided to make a triple claim to the London Transport Executive. They seek a 11 a week rise in the basic wage, the replacement of the present 84-hour fortnight with a 40-hour week and additional payment for shift work.
The committee's decision will now be considered by the other I.ondon bus groups, for trolleybus and country bus sections. Then it will have to be submitted to the National Bus Group Committee and the executive council of the Transport and General Workers' Union.
It is considered in some quarters that the support of the other London groups will readily be obtained, but the question of support from higher levels is not a foregone conclusion.
Anticipating lengthy negotiations the central busmen passed a motion allowing for the imposition of a ban on overtime. to operate before or during the early negotiations on the new claim. Negotiations on the question of working hours, between the T.G.W.U, and the L.T.E., are in progress at the moment.
