on the singleitlf carriageway suspension bridge linking Widnes and Runcorn across the Mersey. The bridge, which will take three years to complete at an estimated cost of £1.3m., wilt replace the existing transporter bridge.
An emergency meeting of the bridge joint committee at Liverpool last week agreed to modifications suggested by the Ministry of Transport, which will save £114,000. The Ministry objected to the committee's original design of a singlecarriageway bridge which could be extended to a dual carriageway.
