Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Supplied by the Ministry of War Transport and the Hauliers' National Traffic Pool, to keep the industry informed of developments, but not necessarily to be regarded as official. ..-• Traffic Reference Number.—The key to tracing any movement in the Road Haulage Scheme is the traffic reference number, prefixed by the letters T.R. and the index letter. It must be on the consignment, delivery and receipt notes. It must be toted on any invoice sent in for Casual haulage and in all correspondence about accounts or movements. If 'a carrier sends in a statement of what he considers to be the outstanding amount due to him he must quote the traffic reference numbers of all the jobs involved. The use of this -method of reference saves . work in keeping additional records and therefore man power. If it be not quoted the Ministry has no alternative

but to return the papers to the carrier and ask for this reference.

Local Traffic Office.--A local traffic office has been opened at Brookfield, New North Road, Exeter, with a traffic-movement officer in charge. The office will accept traffic on behalf of the area office at Plymouth. Carge.—The general cargo and meat moved in the week ended August 14 totalled 160,880 tons. Iii the week before the total was 149,794 tons.

Defence Linea.—In addition to the 40,000 vehicles previously enrolled, offers of a further 900 were received in the week ended August 15. At this ratesthere is a reasonable hope that the 50;000 mark will be passed before the onset of winter. The North Western, Eastern and Midland Regions did particularly well in the week under review, adding 209, 161 and 112 respectively to their totals.
