The Admiralty ordered a fire. engine from Merryweather and Sons, Ltd., and an Albion heavy lorry, and gave a contract for lorries to Vauxhall Motors, Ltd. The War Department placed an order for assemblies for 3-ton six-Wheelers with the•Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., and divided one for bodies between C. Plan for Scottish Merger.

A proposal for the amalgamation of Scottish contractors' road-transport associations is under consideration by a joint committee. The amalgamation would not only be advantageous in conferences with the Government in regard to new legislation, but would facilitate negotiations on wages and working conditions.

The Scottish Carriers and Haulage Contractors Association, the Scottish Commercial Motor Users Association, and the Glasgow District Horse and Motor Contractors Association are the chief organizations interested.

To Bridge or Not To Bridge : Operators To Decide.

The Tay Road Bridge Committee of Dundee Corporation has sent a questionnaire to all motor-vehicle users in Dundee, Angus, and Fife, to discover what use is likely to be made of a road bridge over the River Tay. • An accompanying letter states that the Minister of Transport is prepared to consider the question of a bridge if he be satisfied that it is justified on economic and traffic grounds.

60-ton Load Provides a Transport Problem.

The transport of a large boiler for the new power' stationof the Parkgate Ism and Steel Works recently provided a number of problems to the contractors. The boiler, 75 ft. long and weighing over 60 tons, was transported by road from Glasgow.

The journey was made with two tractors, a third tractor following and drawing a trailer loaded with tools and equipment.

Elaborate precautions had to be taken and the roads were extensively surveyed before the journey started.
