An Addition to the Extensive Range of A.E.C. Products.

THE RANGE of petrol-vehicle models manufactured by the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., of Waltha.mstow, London, K17, is most comprehensive; and embraces types of goods and passen7 ger-carrying machines ,which are marketed to meet the widely differing needs of almost all classes of users. One of the most recent additions to the company's extensive list of models is a threeway hydraulic tipping wagon, of which we publish illustrations on this page.

For certain kinds of work, especially where much manceuvring has to be done in confined areas, the ordinary one-way tipping wagon, in which the body is usually elevated from the front end, has certain drawbacks which can generally be readily surmounted by the employment of a vehicle fitted with a body which not only tips to the rear, but also to each side. With a vehicle of this type such accurate rnanceuvring is not necessary and the load can be discharged with greater facility at any desired place.

The tipping gear of the latest A.E.C. wagon is of the more or less orthodox hydraulic-rain type made by Messrs. Bromilow and Edwards. It. consists of two hydraulic rams, which are swung on trunnions in a frame which is suspended on rotating bearings from the main chassis frame. The rams are connected to the body by means of ball-and-socket joints, which are disposed on a crossbearer immediately below, and attached to, the body. The rams are operated by a rotary gear-driven pump, which is built up as a unit with the oil-box and central valve. This pump is driven direct from the gearbox of the chassis, its engagement or disengagement being controlled by means of an operating lever located in the driver's cab.

The body is carried on the chassis frame on four bearings, the locking pins of which can be quickly disconnected in order to allow the body to tip to the rear or to one side, The lever in the cab, which controls the movements of the body, has three positions—these 'being, "lift," " stop" and "lower.''

To prevent the possibility of the rams being forced entirely out of the cylinders, a connection from the underside of the body. to the control shaft is provided, and this positively closes the control valve when the body reaches ark angle of 45 degrees in the direction in which it is being tipped. With this three-way tipping wagon a standard type of body for general work is supplied, its capacity being 125 cub. ft., although other .types of bodies can be constructed to meet the needs of individual users. The length of the standard body is 11 ft., its width being 6 ft. 3i ins., and its depth 1 ft. 10i ins.

The body is constructed of oak with forged steel reinforcements. The sides are hinged at the upper and lower edges and open outwards from the centre, the tailboard being hinged at the top only. The bodY is lined with sheet-steel. The chassis to which this three-way tipping body is fitted is a standard

A.E.C. production. It incorporates I 45 h.p. A.E.C. engine, with a bore of 120 mm. and a stroke a 150 mm., sit aluminium cone-type clutch faced with Ferodo fabric, a four-speed-and-reverse gearbox and an overhead worm-driven rear axle.

It is equipped with a commodious cab and a collision bar to protect the radiator.
