Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Over the past decade or more many construction firms have been contracting out their plant and transport requirements to concentrate on their core activity of building.

But one demolition contractor has gone against the trend. Essexbased Squibb & Davies Demolition has just taken delivery of its firstever low-loader, from King Trailers.

The four-axle GTL 112 fully steered hydroneck trailer will be used mainly to haul Squibb & Davies' fleet of heavy 360' tracked excavators weighing up to 50 tonnes. It's drawn by a Scania 1146 460 tractor.

Manager Paul Blank says that Squibb & Oavies chose to abandon contract hauliers and take its heavy transport in-house for reasons of cost—a claim that will make many a haulier's jaw drop in disbelief.

"It was costing us a fortune," he says. "Having our own low-loader means not spending a small fortune and not having to wait around for other people. We have our own driver and when he needs to be somewhere he just goes." The philosophy was, and still is, to dedicate the new King GTL 112 to Squibb & Davies' own fleet of 18 heavy diggers. But Blank says: "Our new plant manager decided that we could also offer haulage services to third parties, which we are now doing." The trailer looks like paying for itself within the year.
