Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by Dave Civil( Drivers will die unless those responsible for a spate of attacks on the A52 between Derby and Ashbourne are caught quickly This warning has been issued by David Taylor, of David Taylor Driving Services in Ashbourne, who suffered facial cuts after being struck by a piece of cast iron while driving on the road last Thursday "It was very scary," says Taylor. "I heard a laud explosion. I thought I had been involved in a crash or something had blown up. It was only after I had got out of the vehicle that realised I had blood all over my face."

The attack on Taylor which is understood to have been launched from a car travelling in the opposite direction, is one of 25 attacks on the same road in the last few weeks.

In one incident, on 23 September, ambulance driver Nicholas Horobin lost an eye after a large piece of brick was thrown through the windscreen of his ambulance.

"Someone will be killed soon. I was lucky," says Taylor. "Drivers have to be aware of the danger out there."

Detective Chief Inspector John Briggs of Derbyshire Police adds: "I urge anyone who may have witnessed these attacks or seen someone or something suspicious or unusual should come forward."

Police have set up high-profile patrols on three roads in the area, the A52, the Alb and the A517. Spot checks are also being carried out.
