tickets, £800 from season tickets, £4,000 from scholars' tickets and 112,000 from weekly tickets. With the expected £9,500 revenue from the Luton combined area, the company's revenue would go up by £94,500.

The company proposed a maximum of Id. increases on single fares up to lid., 2d. on singles between 11d. and Is. 8d., and 3d. on singles over Is. 8d. The maximum increase on return fares would be 6d. Under the new scale, a 2d. single ticket would carry passengers .8 mile, instead of the present 1 mile.

Granting the application, Mr. A. E. Curtis, chairman, said the scale was not unreasonable, and the company had to have the means to give a proper and efficient service.

Increases granted to Newcastle upon Tyne Corporation by the Northern Commissioners will yield an extra £110,000 a year. The new scale, which comes into operation on November 1, is on a mileage basis, and tapers from 1.1d. for 0.4 mile to 8d. for 10.9 miles. Mr. Frank Taylor, general manager. said this was preferred to a flat-rate increase of -}d. on all fares, South Wales Increases Increases granted to operators in South Wales last month will come into effect on October 27, the South Wales Commissioners announced on Monday. They fixed the date after approving fare alterations put forward by the South Wales Tralisport Co., Ltd. The company's single fares up to 6d. will rise by -Id., and up to ls. 6d. there will be a Id. increase. Over Is. 6d. the increase will be 2d.

S.WT. also asked to abolish threemonth season tickets, but the Commissioners decided that these should be available for people paying a fare of Is. or more. This ruling will apply to the five other companies on whose applications decision had earlier been reserved. They are the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd.. Rhondda Trans port Co.,Ltd., Red and White Services. Ltd., 1. James and Sons, Ltd., and the Associated Bus Co., Ltd., Llantrisant.

Applying to the Yorkshire Commissioners to charge higher fares for a school bus service at Bridlington, Mr. G. H. Lord, for H. G. Anfield and Sons, Ltd., said they had not asked for heavier increases to avoid causing hardship to parents who had three or four children at school.

They were granted permission for one year to raise rates from 2s. 6d. to 2s. 10d. a week for two journeys a day, and from 3s. 4d. to 3s. 9d. for four journeys. Mr. Lord said the company did not want to withdraw the service, as it enabled them to retain their drivers for summer seasonal traffic.

Workmen's Fares to Go The Northern Commissioners have told Stockton and Middlesbrough Corporations that they propose to delete ill workmen's fares. In the case of Stockton they propose that scholars' conces. sionary rates shall become the same as children's fares—half the adult ordinary fare. Both authorities have applied for fare revisions, but have stated that they wish to retain workmen's fares.

The Commissioners have also decided that concessions on the Hartlepool-West Hartlepool route, covered jointly In Hartlepool and West Hartlepool Trans. port Departments, must be abolished. They have informed the two councils of their decision.

Bournemouth Transport Committee's recommendation that an immediate application for increases should be made, was defeated by the town council by five votes. The committee were accused of trying to hide a " nest-egg " of £22,000 surplus out of last year's £140,000 working profit.

For the committee, the chairman pleaded that a reserve should be kept. He pointed out that £22,000 was only one week's takings, and between 195356 there had been a drop of 8m. passengers.
