NIMONIC 80—THE NEW NICKELBASE ALLOY

A PROPOS of the articles at present tappearing in this journal dealing with the gas turbine, readers may be interested to know that the July-August issue of the "Nickel Bulletin," issued by the Mond Nickel Co., Ltd., deals with the development of Nimonic 80, a nickel-base alloy used for turbine blades.

This alloy was developed by the Mond Nickel -concern, and it is the metal which is now being used for the blades of gas turbines, which have to withstand centrifugal stresses of 12 tons per sq. in. at temperatures up to 700 degrees C.

A BOOK TO BE READ

WJE have read with great interest a VV book entitled "The Royal Road," the author of which is Mr. Robert Allan, who was, for a titne, acting editor of the R.H.A. journal, "Roadway." It is published at 7s. 6d. net by Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, Ltd. The three-page foreword is by Lord Perry, who, like us, heartily commends the bo-Ok to readers.

It is of a handy size, well illustrated, and deals with road transport from about 2,000 B.C. up to present times. There are interesting and appropriate quotatinns and a touch of humour. The author believes in fact rather than fancy, and, in addition to the general

matter, includes stories of particular transport achievements by a number of well-known concerns in the industry.
