THE BOSS OF Shropshire-based Dave James Group has used social media site Twitter to announce the closure of the firm's haulage arm and lambast the government's attitude towards the industry The group's subsidiary, Dave James Transport, will wind down loses mounted over the last 12 months, resulting in six redundancies. Its other divisions, which include CV sales and tyre services, are unaffected by the closure.

Last Wednesday (27 October)„ owner Dave James wrote on Twitter: "The death knell of the family-run haulage business is ringing as we speak thanks to European legislation and government greed on fuel.

"Just watched one of my trucks come into the yard; sad times as they will be silenced due to weak politicians."

James tells CM: "1 have no qualms over halting something that has, and still is, losing me money We took pride in running smart trucks that gave out the right image to an ever hostile Joe Public, but 'doing the job right' is not enough. The rates you are being paid have to keep up with ever rising costs."

He also says the business has been crippled by the London LEZ for journeys to Erith, in south-east London.
