Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Around 100 operators are owed hundreds of thousands of pounds by two freight forwarders, police have discovered just days after starting investigations into the two Leeds firms,

And worst to be stung by the collapse of Wakefield-based Allied Imports and Akcent Europa of Leeds is French international haulier Norbert Dentressangle which has lost £72,000. The company's Le Havre office is owed £55,000 by Allied and two other French-based subsidiaries are owed £17,000 by Akcent.

Police are investigating allegations that both companies contracted out work to international operators but failed to pay the hauliers although the final customer had settled the bill. Staff from both organisations have since disappeared.

The West Yorkshire fraud squad says: "The hunt is still on for the staff from Allied and Akcent. There certainly appears to be a link between the two."
