Out of the three heavy truck engines currently produced by the Italian truck maker; 9.5, 13.8 and 18-litres, only the big vee has four valves per cylinder.
The 9.5-litre could well get a four-valve head for Euro-2, not least as the company says: "It is where the volume is as the mainstay of our tractor market."
Although Pegaso will continue to produce Euro-1 versions of its own 10.5litre and 12-litre engines for bus and coach applications, equivalent truck versions will not be developed for Euro-1. Production of the current Mider and Troner ranges has virtually ended, as the Spanish maker's truck range is being replaced by Iveco models.
