Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers with a national depot network and a fleet ranging from vans to 38-tonne trunkers still have a chance to clinch an automotive distribution deal to be awarded this month.

Italian electrical components manufacturer Magneti Marelli says it is talking to three hauliers, but would consider other bids. It will start the oneyear contract with the successful bidder in January.

It would not comment on the amount of goods the haulier would carry but says deliveries could range from a single alternator to a trunker load of headlamps.

Magneti Marelli expects its UK aftermarket products to bring in as much as a £3m turnover in the first year: within five years this could increase to £20m.

The 12-month deal will demand that the haulier supplies parts to up to 100 outlets from a warehouse in Rugby, Warwickshire. The independent automotive wholesalers and agents will need a weekly delivery of parts on a guaranteed two-day service, as well as an emergency overnight service. Eventually Magneti Marelli could switch to a contract-hire agreement.

Contact Magneti MareIli's logistics manager Allan Bicknell at 42-46 Somers Road, Rugby, Warwickshire CV22 7D11.
