WEST MIDLANDS haull now look certain to go ah with their agreement w Alan Law's Transport i General Workers Union ii for a 15 per cent pay rise.

The news comes despit decision by shop stewards days ago to reject the gotiated settlement sigi only last week by Alan L and Road Haulage Associat officials.

RHA area secretary 13 Ward told CM that he vl drawing up the paperwork volved for members to si scribe to the agreement, .ing the new accident and .ness benefit scheme inred in the agreement which les into effect on rember 28, ut in Coventry where 'ers are demanding a 100 cent rise on basic rates -e has still been no movent, although some rators in the area have said t they think the men should part of the West Midlands regotiators fear that there will be industrial action in support of the claim which could bring dire consequences for some firms.

"I don't want to see men out of work and companies going to the wall, and that is what will happen if there is action over this claim," said one operator.

There is a grave danger that some firms will not re-open if there is action in support of the claim and some companies that have already come close to that situation in recent years may not recover this time.

In Scotland there has still been no reply to the 9.27 per cent offer made by employers to Transport and General Workers Union officials.

R HA area secretary Tom Brattin told CM: "We have heard nothing from them yet, the unions are still considering the offer."

This week union officials in all areas were still in meetings and unable to comment on the current situation.
