Foden's Sandbach neightirs at ERF will have a 6x4 ictive unit on display fitted th a new non-reactive rear spension which is claimed to 'er safer operation with lighter ight (for a test report on the spension see this week's chnical News in CM). The hide is a 40R3 tractive unit th a 3.7m (12ft 21n) wheelse powered by a Rolls-Royce ;5L engine and is at Kelvin ill in the colours of Calor ins port. In the livery of J. McBean Transport will be a 40 G2 ERF tractive unit with a 3.2m (1 Oft 6in) wheelbase powered by a Gardner 8LXB engine through a nine-speed Fuller gearbox.

The final ERF exhibit is another tractive unit, this time featuring a Cummins 250 engine. A power take-off and drive, shafts for trailer-mounted discharge equipment are fitted to customer requirements on this show model. The vehicle is exhibited in the colours of Scott-Bader who manufacture raw materials for the plastic panels of the ERF SP cab.

Ailsa Trucks, the concessionaires for Volvo, are 'based in Scotland so it is rather apt that the new range of Volvo lorries will make their first UK show appearance north of the border.

The new range will be represented on the Ailsa stand by a Volvo F-'10 tractive unit.

This will be on display with a 3.2m (10ft 5in) wheelbase and a sleeper cab. The 207kW (278bhp) version of the Volvo TD100 engine is fitted along with the sixteen speed gearbox option and will be shown in the Ailsa Trucks livery.

Ailsa Trucks of course have designed and manufactured their own double-decker at Irvine and an example will be on show with a 79-seat Alexander body in Western SMT livery.

A 75-seat Van Hoof-bodied version in South Yorkshire PTE colours will be in the demonstration park. A first-timer at Kelvin Hall the Stonefield cross-count vehicle. The Cumnock compa was founded by the late J, McKelvie who launched Vol commercial vehicles in the Utc Two Stonefield models vs be on show, one with a thr€ litre (183 cu in) Ford pet; engine and the other, wi Reeve Burgess bodywork, haf. 5.2-litre (317 cu in) Chrys engine.

Four out of the fi, Mercedes-Benz commerci vehicles at the Show are rece introductions to the UK mark( Kelvin Hall marks the Briti: market debut of the new lig van range with two examples a van and a chassis cab — beir on display.

Introduced at the Harroga tipper show earlier this year, ti 2419K is powered by a 9.5 litre (584 cu in) diesel engil with a V6 configuration. A ma powerful version of the sari engine with a longer thre crankshaft to increase the cap city to 10.46 litres (638 cu i can be seen in the 1619S Ira tive unit designed for 32-tc operation.

Completing the Merced( display will be an L608D vE from the Dusseldorf factory.

The main item of intere from the Ford range of exhibi is the recently announc€ underfloor engine version of IIR Series psv chassis. Fitted wi; a Plaxton Supreme body on

10m (32ft 10in) chassis, tF R1014 features a six-litre (36 Cu in) Turbo II engine whic develops 105kW (141bhp) ; 2,40Orpm.

Six Scottish Ford Truc Specialist Dealers and one Pul : Service Vehicles Distributor e between them providing ght vehicles. The Transconiental range will be reesented by an HA 4227 tree/e unit with a Cummins NTC 35E engine developing DOkW (269bhp) at 1,950rpm. ptional equipment fitted to the low model includes bunks, a 55 Litre (100gal) fuel tank and Drk fifth-wheel.

Three versions of the Deries range will be at Glasgow 'eluding a D0707 "'weight .atcher— with a Coachwork onversions box body. The Atries range is represented by n integral van built by Dorlabile and based on an A0609 hassis cowl with a 3,68m (12ft in) wheelbase.

Escort and Transit exhibits complete the large Ford display.

After six years with no Dennis exhibits at the Scottish Motor Show Hestair Dennis will have four models at Glasgow this year; three will be on the stand and the Dominator doubledecker in the demonstration park.

The R60 Dennis Fire Appliance was built for the Clwyd Fire Brigade and has a Rolls-Royce B81 engine coupled to an Allison 640 fully automatic transmission.

With a 13.2cum (17.3cuyd) body the Dennis Bulkmaster will accept up to 7 tons of compressed refuse. Mechanical components include a Perkins 6.354.2 engine, Eaton gearbox and Eaton single-speed axle.

Another new vehicle on display will be the DAF 2100 which UK operators can see for the first time in this country. The show model will be a 4x2 tractive unit with a 2.85m (9ft 4in) wheelbase and short cab.The turbocharged 8.25-litre (503cuin) engine develops 150kW (202bhp) with a maximum torque figure of 670Nm (494 I bft).

In addition DAF Trucks (GB) Ltd will have a 2300 on display. This is the machine which recently returned the best-ever fuel consumption for the Commercial Motor Scottish test route.

No less than seven vehicles from Seddon Atkinson will be at Glasgow; two from the 20 Series of 16-tonners while t! remainder are heavier 40 Series models.

Both the 200s are power by the International D-358 E gine which develops 100k (134bhp) at 3,000rpm. T 4.5m (14ft 8in) wheelba model is in the livery of J. 1 Alexander while the second v sion, with a 3.8m (12ft 6 wheelbase, is to go into servi with Braidbar Nurseries Ltd Glasgow.

The most powerful of t 400-Series tractive units on c play will be the 204k (274bhp) Cummins engin model for T and M Catto Aberdeen. A sleeper-cab is fit.

On the stand of M.I.T.M., lant and Commercials (ScotInd) Ltd, will be a MAN 6.280 tractive unit plated at 4 tonnes gross. The engine is lightly turbocharged 11-litre 71 cuin) diesel unit rated at 06kW (280bhp).

Two examples of the 16.232 active unit will complete the AN display, one with a short 113 and the other with a twinink sleeper.

It is difficult to include details

all the Leyland exhibits on splay as two of them are new odels which will be Officially inounced in next week's CM.

Scania (GB) Ltd will be owing the latest examples of two best selling vehicles in a UK, the LB111 and the 81. The former is powered by 3 turbocharged six-cylinder gine which was introduced at

Brussels Show earlier this ar. It produces 206kW 76bhp) at 1,300rpm. The rticular vehicle on display has en bought by J. and M. Murck Ltd of Paisley.

The second Scania will be an 81 HS54 rigid fitted with a 3m (24ft) long Grey and ams fridge body. With an laden weight of 8.24 tonnes 1 tons) the 81 has a payload Dacity of 8.01 tonnes (7.9 is).

Ten Bedford commercial hicles headed by the topight TM 3800 will be at 'yin Hall with a combined play from five dealers. A send TM will be a general haulage 16-ton rigid equipped with Bedford's regular D-cab.

Bedford's long-serving TK range will have three representatives at Kelvin Hall. One will feature a fridge body by Penman of Dumfries in the livery of Denny Meat Trading Ltd, Rutherglen, Glasgow.

The large contingent from Chrysler includes the new Dodge 2000 Spacevan rated at 2.27 tonnes gvw on a wheelbase of 2.29m (7ft 6in). The

show model illustrates the .various door combinations available with sliding driver's door, hinged passenger door and third side door.

A Fuller gearbox is now fitted to the R3820P Series tractive unit plated for 38 tonnes which is exhibited with a wheelbase of 3.35m (lift).

On the trailer side, Craven Tasker will be showing a new elevating neck for use on the Tasklift range of low-loaders.

The trailer on display developed from the Desigr Council Award winning model incorporates a conventiona lower deck with a load bearinc bridge over the bogie togethe with a 910mm (3ft) beaver tail.

The biggest Rolatif demountable. tipper yet built b■ Edbro of Bolton with a capacit) of 30cum (40cuyd) will be a Kelvin Hall mounted on Leyland Octopus eight-wheele chassis.
