mEw offices for 'Essex Carriers, Ltd., .1.1 at Great Tarpots, Benfleet, Essex, were opened last Friday by Mr. W. P. S. Ormond, Eastern Licensing Authority. A new system of prestressed concrete construction has been used. The offices, which are liberally insulated with foam 'stag, are situated over a new loading bank.
At a luncheon following the opening ceremony, Mr. Bernard Braine, M.P., said he thought that road transport had taken in both hands its new opportunities. Essex Carriers, Ltd., represented all that was best in private enterprise.
Mr. R. B. Brittain, managing director, said that the company [who have 30 vehicles and 10 trailers on A licences and two vehicles and a trailer on B licences] had social and works corn mittees and a bonus scheme, and provided workers with free protective clothing. The relationship with the Transport and General Workers Union was a two-way affair from which both sides benefited.
Next year a canteen is to be built for the staff, and in 1957 the stores and workshops are to be extended.
G.E.C. MOBILE SHOWROOM FLEET
riA NUMBER of mobile showrooms, based on Comrrier chassis, is being put into service by the General Electric Co., Ltd. Interior displays may be varied to show domestic appliances, installation materials or light engineering products.
The vehicles have large van-type bodies with a sliding door at the front and another at the rear. A dynamo is included to provide A.C. current.
SAFE INSPECTION LAMPS MEW inspection lamps produced by 1 Dorman and Smith, Ltd., Manchester, to B.S.S. 1980 (1953) incorporate several safety features. An adjustable eye shield is fitted inside the wire cage to prevent glare, and to project light where needed.
The -Supergrip lamp, priced at 18s., has a pincer hand grip and a crocodile clip for attachment to any convenient object. The Superlux, which costs 14s., has a leather loop so that it can be suspended from any projection.
