Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

1ST R.6 was unexpectedly issued on 1-4 Wednesday by the British Transport Commission, It comprises seven units with premises. They are at Dowkis (20 operational vehicles), Ely (20), Folkestone (25), Louth (18), Swaffham (14), Tiptree (34) and Wells, Som. (20). All were offered in list 12.

The re-offering of these units suggests that interest had been shown in them, but that former tenders were not sufficiently high to be acceptable.

Tenders close on November 30.

INCREASE SOUGHT TO PLEASE ANOTHER OPERATOR

WHEN East Midland Motor Services. Ltd., .applied to the East Midland Licensing Authority at Nottingham on Monday for permission to increase two excursion fares from 3s. 3d. to 5s. because of a disparity between their rate and that charged by the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., on their stage service, the chairman, Mr. A. G. Curtis, commented:

The 54 per cent. increase is proposed merely to avoid something that has been in existence for many years. Do you seriously suggest that making. the return fare 5s. is going to stop one person going by the stage-carriage service instead of by the excursion?" .

Mr. E G. Dravers, East Midland's traffic manager, said that he did not. " I merely emphasize that the applicalion has been made because of a communication from the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., because of the present tremendous disparity," he added.

The rate on the stage services from Worksop and Retford to Lincoln was 4s. 10d. The excursions were run between these points on race days.

The application was adjourned for the Lincolnshire Road Car Co. to be represented.

BAMFORD SALE RUMOUR DENIED D UMOURS that a Burton-On-Trent IX concern was to buy about 100 of the 300 vehicles said to be operated by E. E. Bamford (Contractors), Ltd., Alfreton, were denied by the receiver and manager, Mr. A. G. B. 13urney, in London on Tuesday.

It is understood; however, that the sale of the assets is being considered.

The vehicles concerned in the rumours are tippers. These are let out on hire to other operators and are not 1 ieen sed.
