spark more losses

Doubt surrounds the future of Newark-based Robertshaw Transport Services (RTS).

Managing director Garth Robertshaw told Commercial Motor that the company might have to close, but he declined to comment further. A closure would mean the loss of more than 20 drivers jobs and would also take work from a number of owner-drivers.

VS was set up to deliver coal in the same month that the pit strike started in 1984. It later moved into delivering agricultural products from mills to pet food factories and the import of French grain using pressure tanks.

In 1997 Robertshaw told CM that the strength of the pound was having an adverse effect on his grain export business and that the coal business had fallen to less than 30% of turnover.

The company also has a 930m2 warehouse which is used by a number of customers in the brewing industry.
