Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO interesting vehicles, one a horsebox and the other a semitrailer for the recovery of carcasses, have been built for overseas Operators. Based on an Albion Claymore chassis, the horsebox has been shipped to Kenya by Messrs. Brownhills Motor Sales, Brownhills, Staffs. The customer is Mr. R. G. Selle, Tarakuet, Njoro.

The integral cab is of full-fronted type, with moulded glazed corner panels providing good visibility. The lower panels of the body on the outside are of 18-gauge aluminium, and the waist-line is sloped towards the rear. The panels are • edged with plastics material and have chrome mouldings.

This vehicle has two loading ramps, one at the off side front and another at the rear. Inside there are two detachable jockey seats and partitions. The roof is lined inside with a white plastics material and the side and partitions are well padded. The, height from. the double floor to the roof is 7 ft.

To facilitate the construction of a two-wheeled trailer with a floor height of 10 in. for an operator in Ceylon, Jensen Motors, Ltd,, West Bromwich. Staffs, employed Bramber rubbersuspension units. This obviated the use of a cranked axle and provided the maximum ground clearance compatible with the low floor.

The trailer is hauled by a Jen-Tug Mark 2 tractor equipped with an Austin A50 petrol engine, and will carry a load up to 1 ton.

Two suspension units are designed for a capacity of 2 tons and can be adjusted to increase the unladen ground clearance from about 91 in, to approximately

1 ft. 3m, The rubber elements, which are housed in steel casings, are bcindecl to shafts carrying the trailing arms and the wheel assemblies, the arms being splined to the shafts to enable the springs to be set-up or, alternatively, to raise the body. The 9.25-in. by 13-in, tyres are of the low-pressure type, and, in conjunction with the rubber springs, provide exceptionally good suspension characteristics.

This trailer will be employed fdi the recovery of animal carcasses, and is equipped with a winch, located on the cranked platform in front of the body. The structure is divided into two separate compartments, one for the load and one to accommodate the labourers.

Dual-purpose Tailboard

A short winch cable passes through apertures in the bulkheads and is supported on a pulley at the front of the main compartment. A high tailboard is also employed as a ramp, the low loading height facilitating the winching operations.

The length of the trailer is approximately 24 ft. 6 in., and the body has an overall width of 4 ft: 9 in. and a height of 4 ft. 4 in. The wheels are mounted on the outside of the frame and have a track of 5 ft. 11 in.

The main frame is constructed of steel channel sections and the body is built of top-hat light-alloy frame members and aluminium panelling.

This outfit will be supplied to Collettes, Ltd_ Colombo.
