• Anthony Long, managing director of Liverpool haulage company AJ Long Transport, has denied smuggling more than 25,000 litres of untaxed diesel into the UK from the Republic of Ireland.
Liverpool Crown Court adjourned the case until the end of March, when a trial date will be set. AJ Long driver Kevin Halligan pleaded guilty to a similar charge; sentence on him was adjourned until after Long's trial.
• The company's Operator's Licence for 25 vehicles and 40 trailers has already been revoked by North Western Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth.
