Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A. CHAIR and Research Group in Traffic Studies has been set up at University College, London, the holder of the chair and director of the group being Prof. R. J. Smeed, formerly deputy director (traffic and safety) of the Road Research Laboratory, and more recently chief scientist at the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources.

The group plans to carry out research in depth and to train a few highly qualified post-graduate research students for work in the traffic field. As well as keeping in touch with other traffic research workers, the group will work in close contact with others in the College working in allied fields and its research will include topics from the whole field of traffic; special attention will, however, be paid to urban problems.
