Breweries Ltd. will get a guaranteed £41 a week for a six-night stint under an agreement signed with the Scottish Commercial Motormen's Union. By implementing the 40 m.p.h. speed limit, drivers on the Edinburgh-London run will complete the 300 miles from Edinburgh to Stamford in 10 hours and hand the vehicle over to a London shunter.
Other contract wages will vary between £28 10s. and £36 a week, depending on distance and number of nights worked. There is a guarantee of no redundancy.
Two vehicles will now lift 100 tons of beer in a five-day week, compared with five vehicles previously.
