Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ting station has recently been put in operation by the National Broadcasting Co., Radio City, New York, for experimental " pick-ups " of outdoor news events. As will be seen from the accompanying illustration it consists of two large vans, one of which, in addition to containing the pick-up apparatus, provides operating positions on the roof for Iconoscope cameras and special parabolic microphones.

The second van is provided with a trolley-type antenna which can be used in relaying the broadcasts—both picture and sound—to Radio City from the picture transmitter mounted within the vehicle.

The van containing the pick-up equipment is the mobile equivalent of a complete television studio. The apparatus, which is mounted in racks extending along the centre of the vehicle, includes the synchronizing generators and rectifiers for supplying Iconoscope beam voltages, amplifiers for blanking and deflecting potentials and line amplifiers. The principal sound apparatus consists of microphone amplifiers and sound mixing panels. The control room is also located in this van. Here, in semi-darkness, the engineers can see the picture as it" is actually being transmitted, as well as the image being picked up by the second Iconoscope camera, preparatory to transmission. The second van, connected to the first by 500 ft. of coaxial cable, contains a complete micro-wave relay transmitter. The principal apparatus is the radio frequency unit, generating the carrier wave for picture signals, and there is modulating apparatus for imposing picture signals on this carrier.

Owing to the great heat generated by some of the large vacuum valves used in television, this vehicle contains an air-conditioning unit and a water cooler to maintain the valves at operating temperatures.
