Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

first aid on the syllabus, although many are still unaware of this.

Ruth Pott, director of employment affairs at the Road Haulage Association (RI-IA), says the first aid element is not set out in detail, but should be included in any CPC training. The RHA is certainly planning to do so in its training course.

The general nature of the first aid requirement could be seen to be vague, but Poll says, reasonably enough, that "depending on your viewpoint, you could see it as non-specific or flexible".

Poll herself is no stranger to first aid, and last November helped a 16-year-old motorcyclist who had been knocked off his bike and was laying in the road.

She says: "It was a really cold day, and although people were there and someone had called the ambulance, he was just laying in the road on his own. Everybody was just looking at him."

Luckily for the teenager, Poll not only took off her own coat to put over him, but asked everyone else to do the same so that he could be kept warm. His injuries were not life-threatening (a broken leg), but the ambulance took 20 minutes to arrive.

"I didn't really do much except talk to him, but often providing a little comfort in situations like that is the most important thing to do," she says.
