The First-published Report after Visits to all the Interesting Stands.

We have pleasure in presenting on the pages which follow herewith our stand-to-stand report of those exhibits at the Royal Show at Doncaster which come within the sphere of the commercial-motor industry.

Of broad impressions, it may perhaps be said that the continued, and what appears to be lusty, revival of the five-ton steam tractor belies the prophecies of

those who, a year or two ago, were extremely doubtful as to the future for this class of machine. Not only is there a fine display of these interesting little " steam horses" staged at the Royal Show this year, but in quite a number of instances the makers have set to work and re-modelled them : and first-class jobs they have made of them, too.

The agrintotor is, perhaps, not making the strides in this country which it should, but the community to which it appeals is, of course, one which does not lightly adopt radical innovations such as that represented by the agricultural tractor. One of last year's models is not shown this year, whilst there is a new machine, by another maker, promised, to take its place. There is again another example of the selfcontained motor plough, whilst the independent oil tractor has notable representatives.

Of ordinary commercial vehicles there is increasing representation, and the opportunity of ample stage room --and, in some cases, of outside unlimited head room—has been taken by makers to show vehicles of unusual type. We refer particularly to a tower wagon, a horse van and a hound van. There is increasing use of the small petrol-propelled self-contained set for pumping and lighting purposes, and a number of makers displays comprehensive ranges of these interesting plants.
