Easily overlooked among its sexier stadlemates. the municipal specialist Econic has just received its f irst major makeover since its 1999 arrival. Changes include exterior restyling that more closely reflects its mainstream siblings and upgraded interior trim and equipment. The innovative cab is formed of an aluminium space frame clad in composite panels. AdBlue cleans the Euro-4 engines, which drive through six or five-speed Allison autos.
Although it was originally conceived as a refuse-collection vehicle, the Econic is steadily carving niches in other areas such as firefighting and tanker work. The standard UK chassis range includes 4x2, 6x2 midand rear-steer, and 6x4 double-drive variants, with the previous
special build 1+3 8x4 joining the line-up. More specialist conversions are available through MB's Custom Tailored Trucks (CU) programme. Combined with the extensive regular options list, this provides specialist operators with the versatility to build exactly what the job needs.
