BUT1ON

For 2007 we've extended this section to include the small but vital sector for specialist municipal chassis. Renault's newcomer has just made the transition from show stand to road, Mere has updated the Econic and Dennis-Eagle has travelled across Warwick to find a new engine supplier.

In the more mainstream world, MAN and Renault have significant new arrivals. while Volvo has used group synergies to come up with not one, but two new ranges covering the middle ground. The big tractors have dominated the Euro-4 SCR vs EGR debate and the same issues apply to the less glamorous sectors. Here. SCR's dominance is more complete, with just MAN and Scania taking the alternative view.

And we must record the passing of some old favourites.Whi le Foden was primarily known for its tippers, the now-departed brand had a small but loyal following in the distribution world. In the municipal sector, Seddon Atkinson is equally dead, its mantle intended to he carried by mainstream Iveco products. The last surviving British badge, ERF, is on life-support as no more than a re-badged MAN.

One municipal contender still missing from our list of what you can buy is MAN with its Dennis-sourced low-entry cab. Official word is that only when its completed development for LHD markets will the factory concentrate on RUID.
