Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A great British favourite just got better, thanks to improvements all round including revised driveline, suspension and loadspace. This would normally take it to the top of the category, but in this case the Astra Van is the category.

Its appeal lies in the fact it can work as a weekend car as much as a business vehicle. Power comes from a 1.3, 1.7 or 1.9-litre multi-jet unit, and whichever size you go for you'll be guaranteed smoothness and economy.

Of course, with its car-derived credentials, you shouldn't expect

serious load capacity — leave that to the high-cubed vans — but with payload at 571 kg and volume at 1.6m3, it still allows reasonable usage.

Inside it's pure Astra car, and that works in its favour, with well designed controls and a positive driving position.

LIKES AND DISLIKES...

✓ Drives like a car, surprisingly ✓ Comfortable interior X Limited load ability X Noise from rear can intrude at speed
