engine and an all-synchromesh fourspeed gearbox are announced today by the Ford Motor Co. Ltd., for its 10/12and 15-cwt. vans. The new units are based on those employed in the current Zephyr 4 car,. and the engine, which has a low-compression cylinder head to. enable it to operate on commercial-grade fuel, develops 55 b.h.p. at 4,400 r.p.m., as opposed to the output of the car engine, which is 68 b.h.p. at 4,800 r.p.m.

The four-speed gearbox has synchromesh on all forward ratios and drives into a special heavy-duty four-pinion rear axle, for which four different finaldrive ratios are available. The current three-speed gearbox is to continue in production.

The price for the new four-speed gearbox is to be announced later.
