Mr. .W. F. Tremayne has been appointed executive in charge of Top Rank Service Stations in succession to Mr. W. A. Jacobs, who has taken up another post in the Rank Organization.

Mr. R. A. Harding has accepted an invitation to become managing director of Sterling Industries Ltd, He will continue as a deputy chairman of the company and as chairman of the manufacturing subsidiaries. He will relinquish the appointment of managing director of Macrome Ltd. arid Hallmae Tools Ltd. on March 31, 1963. Mr. Harding will remain a director of the Macrome and Hallmac companies. Mr. A. E. Bostock, previously sales manager, has been appointed director and general manager and Mr. H. N. Bailey, previously company secretary, has been appointed financial director on the boards of the Macrome and Hallmac companies. Mr. W. G. Allen and Mr. B. F. Caunt, chairman and, managing director respectively of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd., sailed this week for South Africa, where they will be visiting associate companies. They will be joined there by Mr. A. W. Allen, secretary of Atkinson Lorries (Holdings) Ltd., and early in February Mr. Caunt will fly on to New Zealand and Australia, returning to Britain in March.

Mr. J. L. Perren has been appointed the London Transport Board's commer cial advertising officer. Existing contracts will not be affected by the change in control. in consequence, Mr. E. C. Ottaway will resign the chairmanship of British Transport Advertising Ltd. and will be succeeded by Mr. L. EL Williams, member of the British Transport Commission and the British Railways Board.

General Sr Geoffrey Bourne, directorgeneral of the Aluminium Federation and the Aluminium Development Association. is resigning on January 31, 1963, in order to become chairman of the Kenya Central Land Board. The Aluminium Development Association also announces that Dr. E. G. West relinquishes his position as technical director.

Mr. William Dunlop has retired from the Ulster Transport Authority where he held the post of outdoor assistant to the freight manager (road)..

Herr Willy Spaler, Swiss Minister of Transport and a prominent figure in international transport circles, has been elected Swiss President (i.e., President of the Swiss Federal Council) for 1963. Mr. A. L. King and Mr. A. C. Dune have been appointed managing directors of Shell-Mex and BP Ltd. Mr. King and Mr. Dune became members of the board in February, 1962, but continued as general manager (operations) and general manager (industrial sales) respectively, positions which they now relinquish.

Mr. D. D. N. Graham, at present a district superintendent with the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd., will become manager of Stratford-upon-Avon Blue Motors Ltd. on February 1, 1963. Mr. Graham joined Southdown Motor Services as a traffic clerk in 1952 and was later selected for training under the B.E.T. scheme; he also undertook a three-year course with the Western Welsh company, Mr. F. A. J. Woodworth has been appointed general manager of Hebble Motor Services Ltd.; he joined the company as traffic manager in 1958, having previously been with the East Kent Road Car Co. and manager of Red Line Continental Motorways Ltd.

Mr. Robert W. Adams, deputy general manager, has been appointed general manager of Belfast Corporation transport department. He will succeed Mr. Joseph Mackie. His appointment is subject to approval by the City Council.

Obituary

WE regret to record the deaths of Mr. R. B. Leslie, Mr. Thomas Sheils and Mr. A. L. Thorpe.

Mr. Leslie, of Culler, former transport manager of William L. Gavin Ltd., has died at the age of 52. He was well known in grain transporting circles.

Mr. Shells, chairman of T. Sheds and Co. Ltd., Ennis, Co. Clare, was for many years president of the Irish Motor Traders' Association and permanent representative of that body in Dublin.

A haulage contractor for many years, Mr. Thorpe, of Buxton, Derbyshire, has died at the age of 59.
