Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AT their meeting on Monday, Wolverhampton Town Council approved a proposal of the transport committee to raise fares. If the application is granted by the West Midland Traffic Commissioners, revenue will be increased by about 05,000 a year.

The committee told the council that the undertaking faced an estimated loss of £41,000 on the current year, and one of E71,000 in the next financial year.

Mr. D. E. Skelding, manager of the Road Passenger Transport Association, said in Birmingham on Tuesday that members were being advised to increase by 10 per cent_ fares on long-distance holiday services and excursions and tours. The increase will be made under the emergency powers.

W.D. ACCEPTS HIGHER RATES

THE War Department has agreed to accept higher haulage rates to meet increases in costs occasioned by fuel rationing, and in particular by the rise in the price of fuel.

This concession follows representations by the Road Haulage Association, who said on Tuesday that hauliers should now be able to negotiate a mutually satisfactory increase in rates to cover the period of the emergency.
