UNDER the proposed title of Transport Vehicles (Warrington), Ltd., Manchester Road, Woolston, Warrington, a company is being formed to acquire from Sentinel (Shrewsbury). Ltd., the spares, servicing, selling and manufacturing rights of Sentinel vehicles.

HIGHER SPEED LIMIT FOR HEAVY LOCOMOTIVES

THE speed limit for heavy locomotives (tractors or self-propelled plant with an unladen weight of more than 11 tons) will be raised from 5 m.p.h. to 12 m.p.h. when the 20 m.p.h. limit for heavy goods vehicles is increased to 30 m.p.h. on May I. The speed limit for a car or dual-purpose vehicle, with not more than eight seats in each case, when towing a close-coupled fourwheeled trailer will be raised from 20 m.p.h. to 30 tn,p.h.

The speed limit of all goods vehicles drawing a separate trailer and of motor tractors drawing a single trailer, where any wheel has a soft or elastic tyre, will be increased from 12 m.p.h. to 20 m.p.h.

Certain track-laying vehicles with tracks fitted with springs and resilient material, where any wheel has a soft or elastic tyre, may travel at 20 m.p.h. instead of 12 m.p.h. The speed limit of other track-laying vehicles having tracks fitted with springs but not with resilient material will be 12 m.p.h. instead of 5 m.p.h.

Regulations giving effect to the proposed revisions have been drafted to form a complete consolidated schedule of speed limits. Parliamentary approval is still required.

Copies of the regulations—the Motor Vehicles (Variation of Speed Limit) Regulations, 1957—are available from the Stationery Office (4d.).

CORLESS TAKEN OVER

TUESDAY was the day on which

Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., took over the old-established business of Messrs. M. Corlcss and Son, Charnock Richard, near Chorley (The Commercial Motor, December 14). A works service to Leyland was included in the take-over.

The North Western Traffic Commissioners have reserved decision on Ribble's application to take ater the firm's excursion and tour licence. The four Leylands comprising the Corless fleet were not involved in the transaction..
