Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This journal is exclusively read by the heads of many wealthy commercial houses.

Congratulations to Sir T. H. D. Berridge, the R.A.C. solicitor.

The Scottish Show.

Our first notice of the forthcoming Scottish Motor Show will be found on page 373.

With the Times.

New-Year changes in our sections: "Goons TRANSPORT by van, wagon and tractor (page 365) and a combination into "MOTORBUS AND MOTORCAB TOPICS (page 368).

Topical Subjects.

This week's leading articles (pages 361-363) deal with the following: (1) "Night storage accommodation: a good pull-up for carmen ;" (2) "No general motor legislation to be brought in this year ;" (3) "Conclusion of 1911 Review."

Hustling Off a Roller front Peterborough.

Messrs. Barford and Perkins can get off a motor roller at a speed to which "rolling" hardly applies, when occasion demands. A telegraphic order reached the Queen Street Ironworks, on the 22nd ult., for a. water-ballast roller to be supplied to the owner of a large estate near Winchester : it was dispatched the next day. Another wire, on the 27th ult., reported the safe arrival of the roller at Winchester station, and a man was sent off by rail to complete delivery and "start up." He, in company with the purchaser, at once drove it five miles by road. Delivery was accepted, and the man back at the works the next day. Thus, between a Friday and a Thursday, with the Christmas holidays intervening, the roller was

ordered, dispatched and accepted —at a point 150 miles away.

For Robertson's Jams.

Christmas-delivery pressure at Messrs. Robertson's Bromley jam factory was happily reduced by the timely arrival of a new and smart Albion three-tonner. See page 373.

A New Exit from London.

The Road Board is making extensive inquiries with regard to the location of a proposed new road into Surrey, the line of which will probably leave the Portsmouth Road at Kingston Vale, pass through the districts of the Maldens and Coombe, Surbiton and Esher and the Dittons, and rejoin the existing road at Ditton Marsh.

Manchester's Milk Supply.

Renewed efforts are being made in the Manchester district to get ahead with a transport company to convey milk and other dairy produce from parts of Cheshire. We can furnish the name of the party who has the scheme in hand to any bona-fide inquirer. More than 120 farmers attended a recent meeting at Knutsford, when the projected scheme was explained.

Patents in 1911.

Twenty-nine thousand four hundred applications for patents were lodged at the Government office during the last year ; this total shows a decrease of 988 on 1910.

Darracq's Three-tonner.

Pages 366 and 367 contain some advance particulars and illustrations of the Darracq Co.'s first three-tonner. These have come to hand from our Paris correspondent.

Melbourne City's Haulage.

Advices just received from Australia state that four motor wagons are required by Melbourne City Council for the carrying of road metal between the Corporation's quarries and the city streets. The wagons are to be five-tonners, and are estimated to cost £4,500.

A Leyland for Rotherham.

One of the L.G.B. inspectors, Mr. F. H. Tulloch, will hold an inquiry at Rotherham to-morrow (Friday) for the purpose of hearing the application of the Town Council for sanction to a loan of £605 14s. for the purchase of a Leyland motor lorry, the decision to order which we reported a fortnight ago.

" CommerCar " Progress.

Brisk trade in Scotland is reported by Commercial Cars, Ltd., and this company's recent orders from north of the Tweed include : three-ton lorry (delivered last month) for Messrs. Joseph Munro and Sons, contractors, Auchendinny ; " repeats" for the St. Cuthbert's Co-operative Society, the Northern Co-operative Society, the General Motor Carrying Co., Leith, Messrs. G. Scott & Co., Culross, and David MacBrayne, Ltd.

The Luton Town Hall was full to as erflowing, on the 2nd ult., on the occasion of the sixth annual dinner and concert of the Commercial Cars Sick and Benefit Society. Mr. H. C. B. Underdown, chairman and managing director of the company, who presided, was supported amongst others by Mr. C. M. Linley. Mr. tnderdown, in a happy speech, made incidental reference to his recent visit to America, and remarked that the " Commer-Car " business there was progressing apace. He also announced certain intentions of the directors in regard to the Benefit Society. The arrangements for the evening, which were largely in the hands of Mr. E. Willis and Mr. C. H. Morris, went off very well. News and Comment --con. :---Dennis in Manchester.

Mr, Janies Frost, who is on the staff. of Dennis Bros., Ltd., and who is largely responsible for the working of that company's sales department in Manchester and surrounding districts, has changed his address to 10, Langdale Road, Victoria Park, Manchester. Mr. Frost will be remembered by many of our readers as the chief of the traffic department of the Barnsley British Co-operative Society, and his knowledge of inter-depot delivery organization is very eonzide cable.

Winter Holidays, Jaded business men, and others who may have been unable to take a summer holiday, are turning their attention increasingly to the i2harms of Switzerland as a place for quick recuperation. Winter sports in all parts of Switzerland are now in full swing, and the heavy bookings of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway, which company has organized splendid express services at low through rates, bear testimony to the popularity of the arrangements. All who can snatch a holiday just now, or next month, and who prefer the Riviera., will find equal facilities afforded to them by the Continental department of the railway company in question, which department has its offices at London Bridge station.
