Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LORRIES over 7.5 tonnes gvw have been banned from a Northumberland town for an experimental six-month period, after the county council received 500 petitions from residents complaining about the early morning noise.

Lorries normally travelling through Corbridge must now use the B6318 Military Road and A68 Stagshaw Road.

The town is one of the main routes from local quarries, owned by Tarmac at Mootlaw and Matfen, and Northumberland Whinstone at Barrasford. Residents complained that lorries were starting out as early as 5am and that the amount of traffic had increased since 1980.

Fourteen hauliers and drivers protested at the restriction, arguing that the alternative route was longer and would increase wear and tear, journey times, and operating costs.
