Regulations on Reflectors and Extensible Booms

THE Minister of Transport has laid before Parliament a number of regulations affecting reflectors and the lighting of vehicles with extensible booms.

Amendments to the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1964 bring UK requirements for the quality of red rear reflectors to an internationally agreed standard. The Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations, 1963, have been amended to exempt certain trailers from the need to exhibit a trailer plate at the rear if they carry two recognized rear reflectors.

The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1964 have also been amended (as have the Motor Vehicles (Authorization of Special Types) General Order, 1963) in order to allow nighttime use of certain vehicles developed for overhead working. The changes include requirements for lighting the stabilizing side jacks of these vehicles.

The new regulations, which come into force on February 9, are as follows:—Road Vehicles Lighting (Amendment) Regulations, 1966, Statutory Instrument No. 30, 1966 (price 6d.); the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) Regulations, 1966, Statutory Instrument No. 31, 1966 (price 3d.); and the Motor Vehicles (Authorization of Special Types) (Amendment) Order, 1966, Statutory Instrument No. 32, 1966 (price 3d.). They can be obtained from HM Stationery Office or any bookseller.
