Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

From a special correspondent THE Scottish Traffic Commissioners' refusal

(reported last week) of a substantive licence for Hutchison's Coaches (Overtown) Ltd. to operate a stage service between Wishaw and Motherwell, in the face of Central SMT Co. opposition, has led to a storm of protest in Wishaw.

The decision means that Hutchison's will have to withdraw their 18-month-old service between the two towns, and there is talk of the company having to give up their other local services because of the loss of this revenue.

At the weekend, many parties in Wishaw were organizing a sizeable protest. Preparing to fire broadsides were the local MP, the town council, three tenants associations, and trade union branches and managements in six local factories.

Ex-provost Mr. E. Lawson said: "It's diabolical. We asked the SMT to run this service and they refused. Hutchison's jumped at the chance. Now, because it's a success, the SMT have muscled in. But the town doesn't want them and we will show it."

Motherwell and Wishaw Town Council are to ask for an urgent meeting with the Minister of Transport, and feelings are running high.

At the hearing, Central 5MT stated that when the Hutchison's service started, traffic on some of their old-established routes declined sharply. The basis of their objections was this abstraction.
